Remi Nicole - Fed Up / Go With The Flow (Island)
2/5
If you're one of those who likes Lily Allen and Kate Nash (and weren't too put off by whatever 'LDN Is A Victim' was...), then this bouncy acoustic variation on the same theme will be right up your 'norwf Landon' alley. But first, an apology - though the whole comparison of artists thing isn't one of my favourite journalistic tools to employ, this 23 year old English / Australian / Trinidadian lady makes the whole thing very hard to avoid.
Remi Nicole's very, very London accent, talk of Hoodies and 'going wiv the flow' is mixed with extremely basic guitar playing (would we even call them riffs? No...) and creates songs for the 'add to my profile' button on MySpace. She calls out a shallow, repetitive and predictable verse which turns in to a mildly irritating yet decidedly catchy chorus, and it all makes for music which is entirely un-demanding.
Yeah, there's a charm to it - it is just like having a London Town girl playing around on her guitar and singing rather sweetly about her school day in your room. And indeed it is personal with a ramshackle appeal, but her variation on an already parodied theme can get old rather quickly.
