My Juliette - Crying Ocean EP (Self Released)

4/5

By: Christiana Spens

My Juliette - Crying OceanThis record is as magical and natural as gypsy music and secret gigs in the woods, guitar like little reflections of light on leaves and bathing in the sun, some careless little opiate reverie, some sultry little folk song all melancholic made decadent... It's euphoria cut up like cake or coke into a careful rhyme scheme.

It's also quite sensual because of the saxophone and gently caressing continental voice that sings of dying and running away, and some girl called Sophie. It makes me want to dance. That bit 'take me for a ride, be my dirty little star...' - it resonates, and I don't know why.

It can be like cigarette smoke tinged pink with rose-tinted glasses. (Actually I just bought some new pink aviators so that much is true...) They're all pretty, pretty songs, all perfect for a walk in the park. You should take the tunes with you to Primrose Hill.

"Take me to a magic place," he sings, like Gogol Bordello on Opium, a place so magical in fact that I'm inspired to make a new cocktail named after the band: My Juliet... It's white wine poured over a handful of raspberries and strawberries, with some pink grapefruit juice. Opium extract is optional. It's really pretty. It looks like pink smoke in water. Just like the band.
