12 Stone Toddler - Twang (Amazon)
4/5

Brighton seems to be churning out more than its fair share of good music at the moment, and 12 Stone Toddler don't stop that flow. An infectious bass line laden stomper from the off, it's clear from this to see why they're generating quite a buzz in their hometown.
Vocalist Chris Otero's vocal loiters over the tune like some sort of sex pest in a public toilet, the female backing vocals a la Primal Scream in their prime offsetting the filth of the song perfectly. As for the song itself, it's a bona fide monster of a tune, the kind of thing you can imagine Jo Whiley and Edith Bowman, even Terry Wogan, having palpitations about (I was going to throw Zane Low in there, but then I remembered that he has palpitations if he hears a fart...).
The best bit is the chord change lifted straight from ELO's 'Don't Bring Me Down', which is surely the sharpest hook in musical history. All in all, a good'un - but surely the overarching issue has to be why they decided to name the song after those Brummie chavs?
