The Changes - Such A Scene (Drama Club)

4/5

By: Edward Mellett

The Changes - Such a SceneThe sound of Chicago's The Changes harks back to a pre-21st century world where Pavement was played on daytime radio, The Dandy Warhols hadn't sold pop songs to mobile phone corporations and Fountains of Wayne were the next big thing.

In fact The Changes sound very similar to FOW, perhaps with a little riff of under indulged jazziness underpinning their quintessential indieness. Slightly stringy guitars and slightly scowly vocals, a bit like if Noel Gallagher had grown up in America in the sunshine, and not really been so pissed off and generally annoyed by anyone, but actually quite relaxed. The Changes are more thoughtful and intelligent than Oasis, but do they provoke opinion and your eardrums like the aforementioned? Maybe not. Still, 'Such a Scene' is well worth a listen.
