The Icarus Line - Gets Paid (V2)

The Icarus Line generally produces jagged post-punk nightmares that occasionally lapse into semi-conscious thought. But new single 'Gets Paid' sounds more Primal Scream than anything in their back catalogue, complete with tambourines and phlegmatic, lucid vocals. There's even a repeating Iggy Pop style piano riff which goes down a treat as the song gradually speeds to its crescendo. Quite a reintroduction for a band that had almost vanished from popular recognition!
Just three tracks long this pre-comeback album, comeback E.P. might demonstrate a new wave of simplified and restrained Icarus Line music, still confusing and mesmerising just like before, but controlled and thusly more compelling. Deep indulgent rock baselines and squiggly guitar effects riot through "Cut back the heard and Watch your step!" whilst Joe Cardamone releases his snarly, angsty vocals. It might have something to do with the band's line up going through an almost complete change since their inception in 1998, but this comeback is much more like a new arrival.
