To My Boy - Model (XL)
4/5

I don't know why, but whenever I hear this band, I think of Marvin from the series of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy...
There's as strong chance that To My Boy could be really well received in quite a broad market as there is that they couldn't. It could go either way. There's a lot riding on 'Model', then, and though it's definitely not my favourite To My Boy song, perhaps it'll oil people up just right for when they get a nice fat dose of 'The Grid' - a much better To My Boy song.
To My Boy are electro pioneers with a hell of a lot of charm. 'Model' thumps along quite nicely, and live it's especially fantastic, being one of the few tracks in which they use their laptop for a much meatier drum sound. Whilst I'm by no means advocating that they get rid of their other hardware altogether - that would be fatal - it is at least nice to see them mixing their tools up.
This is also another good example of the recurring themes of man made structures and questioning of synthesised emotion and humans as automata - the sort of subject matter you'd expect from a self proclaimed scientist such as the singer of this band.
