Meet Me In St.Louis - Split 7" (Big Scary Monsters)

4/5

By: Sofie Jenkinson

Meet Me In St Louis - Split 7In a time when puzzle-pop guitar is the height of fashion, along come Meet Me In St. Louis to throw their hat into the ring. Built up from the tight, high pitched guitar loops so favoured by contemporary favourites Foals and Tired Irie etc., the sound that continues to resonate is a succulent one. Intelligent use of space and silence sculpt this track from something good into something great, with a dash of added meaning.

When hyperactive post-rock type musical discipline collides with rocking almost-metal in this way the outcome is always going to be curiously sublime. Frequent changes in tempo keep the ears of listeners, musicians and non-musicians alike, pricked up and on their toes - coming together into a chaotically beautiful mess of vibrancy.

Yet another corker under the belt of Big Scary Monsters it seems.
