Cajun Dance Party - Amylase (XL)
4/5
By: Ailsa Caine
Cajun Dance Party are another band happily blowing the indie pop bubble to bursting point with their heady new single 'Amylase'.The song is a perfectly packaged example of youthful exuberance, which is understanding considering most of the band are only just legally OK to drive to their own gigs.
If you're perhaps a little longer in the tooth, world-weary and suffering from a hangover, then 'Amylase' may not quite be what the doctor ordered. However there is something to be said for a single that contains lyrics that sound akin to a GCSE science project thrust to a beat of what can only be described as chirpy guitar and vocals that make Luke Pritchard sound gruff.
With contemporaries including the aforementioned Kooks and other seaside efforts such as Mumm-Ra there's something infectiously optimistic about Amylase. Considering the Great British summer has thus far mostly been a glimpse of Michael Fish's version of Armageddon, there's a potential place for 'Amylase' in the hearts of revellers of all ages. Just enjoy it with a can of cider and a hazy recollection of what it's like to require fake ID, and lo and behold, you have your summer.
