Little Man Tate - European Lover (V2)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak
A souped-up version of yet another cut from the Sheffieldites debut 'About What You Know', this single showcases Little Man Tate's forthright melodic sensibilities (this one sounds a bit like 'Just Like Heaven' by The Cure) and unpretentious lyrical subject matter.
Perhaps it's not quite in the same league as 'Sexy in Latin' or 'House Party at Boothy's', the latter a glorious paean that makes this writer yearn for the joyous, carefree abandon of an undergraduate's existence. Nevertheless, 'European Lover' is a typically peppy and perceptive account of Gap Year-induced romantic insecurities and fond reminisces of illicit teenage boozing.
Although LMT may sound a bit daft a little further down the road if they're still recalling the time an erstwhile lady friend 'blagged a bottle of Sambucca', so long as the majority of their listeners are still youthful enough to empathise with these concerns, it's not much of an issue.
