Paul McCartney - Dance Tonight (Hear Music)
3/5

People expected the first batch of post break-up material from Macca to be of a sinister, kind of, "screw you, you one-legged money-grabbing bitch" tone, maybe sang through the bottom of a brandy bottle, sneeringly dark and rambling. But let's be honest here; if you were worth several million pounds and had just become single again, bought back some of the rights to your bands back-catalogue from Whacko Jacko while looking like a hero in your divorce settlement, you'd be jumping around your house singing, "everybody's gonna dance around, tonight", as well... you know you would.
Paul McCartney has spent his days since that infamous gathering atop Apple Studios making very, very below-par pop music that even your dad would cringe at, slowly melting into retirement and accepting the fact that he'll only ever get the crowd singing with his older material. Surprising to hear then that he's actually written a half decent tune! We say half decent tune, as the tune is about the songs only redeeming quality, the lyrics being a little, well, repetitive and sun-kissed, gag inducingly crap.
As I hear this song more and more on that pesky iPod advert I'm slowing getting allured by it, the catchy nature and stuck-in-your-head values coming out to play as summer finally sets in and the festivals take shape. You find yourself mincing along gently singing it to yourself with a smile, feeling slightly chuffed for old Sir Paul and his new found sexual freedom.
