I Was A Cub Scout reflect on the futility of lives wasted in their latest single 'Our Smallest Adventures'. Maintaining their emo tinged pop rock feel, the presence of synthy ethereal noises bulks up the song into a similarly tiny epic with great ambition.
The song builds into a drum led crescendo and with wistful vocals for company there's an endearing quality to 'Our Smallest Adventures' simple sweetness. With lyrics that hint at great epiphanies on life, we find I Was A Cub Scout in a melancholy state and self-reflective mood which lends the song it's much needed drive and presence.
However, there are times when, despite best efforts, the repetitive pulses of drum and guitar becomes underwhelming. As such 'Our Smallest Adventures' is perhaps best judged not as a self contained hit or miss on the musical barometer, but more a sound bite for I Was A Cub Scout's potential, and a promise for even better things to come.
