Zico Chain - Anaemia (Hassle)
3/5
Put together from pouting riffs, a shoulder bowling chorus and a determined base combined with a pinch of Nine Inch Nails in the trippy acid walk of a middle eight, 'Anaemia' slips and slides through the air and drips off the ceiling.
A torrid of compliments have been washing over Hassle Records' upcoming band like a wet flannel, and after predictions of critical disappointment regarding 'the next big thing', it was a relative relief to heard that the new single is both raw and energetic.
For a London trio, the band have a high-powered full sounding rock edge with sleazy 80's undertones and a definite American underbelly. As much as my ears wanted to hate Zico Chain after the commercial hype and self indulgent press releases, Glithero's coarse voice which slowly tames the ear like a gentle abattoir coaxing in the death row lambs warmed me to their mildly cross music.
