King Creosote - Youve No Clue Do You? (679 / Names)
4/5

For a chap who comes from Fife, this single is remarkably dusted in sunshine and American highways, which isn't the initial image of Fife conjures to mind. He comes from a folk background, which is what mutated into country rock in the 70's, and that is exactly what this single is, as though thrown from the Steel Dan tour bus in '76.
It feels that brackets are missing somewhere in the title, and for some modernity it has a strange noise like someone has left a modern 'landline' off the hook, which is presumably to ensure this isn't confused with the Eagles' Californian rock. It sounds remarkably similar to Midlake's 'Roscoe', but that's because that too could have been taken from the 'Rumours' Studio floor.
Which is not to say it isn't good; it's great. Its mid tempo, immediately hummable, and, when it's played live, guitar necks will dip in unison to emphasis the breaks. What's to dislike, unless of course you hoped punk had put paid to all this sort of thing?
