Athlete - Tokyo (Parlophone)

Continuing Parlophone's love affair with dull, mediocre music, they offer Athlete's new single, 'Tokyo'.
Yet as far as Athlete singles go, this is a good one though - lots of things happening musically and a vocal that doesn't have you reaching for the Valium and pillows. It sounds like the band did a few years ago, possibly a little more savvy, but retaining still the same deadpan voice and ambling guitars and bass that make it hard to pinpoint the melody that lurks somewhere among the late 90's pop rock shambles of the song.
But no, it's just not great. Sure, it points to further mainstream acclaim to come, but for those of us who think others are more deserving of such praise, this isn't worth getting our knickers in a twist about. What is, these days?
