Look See Proof - Local Hero (Weekender)

2/5

By: Alex Lee Thomson

Look See Proof - Local HeroHow to be a successful band today - be a little bit indie, a little bit pop, a little bit dance. By those criteria this band have it made, and this is certainly one of those tracks that you'll hear at the club nights and will on occasion dance to if the mood strikes you. It is though, to all intents and purposes, utterly pointless - a carbon copy of every other indie pop band that's come out this year.

However, the second song on the single 'Make Me Someone' is a far braver effort, and as such also quite bloody good. It's a clear indication of the kind of music Look See Proof should be making more of. They certainly seem to have the ability, but maybe lack the direction...

The live version of 'Start Again' is another youthful blip of dance friendly rock that's completely fine, very amusing in fact, but again, short of any function as a song as it's merely the same thing we've been hearing for the past 12 months with some new words to it. It's almost as though a lot of bands haven't realised the bar has been raised. It has guys, so let's acknowledge that fact by not making any more of this tuneful background filling music. You've got it in you.
