Whitest Boy Alive - Burning (Bubbles)
3/5
By: Sian Norris
The new single from ex-King of Convenience Erland Oye's Whitest Boy Alive project, 'Burning' opens with a sweet lo fi intro, building up to layers of guitar, bass and vocals. He's compared it to Krafwerk producing Fleetwood Mac, but there is nothing here to suggest the complex and hypnotic beats that mark Krafwerk out as pioneers of electronica. However, it is nonetheless a rather sweet song, largely down to the smoothest of bass lines which works to bring the vocals out nicely.
True, there's nothing about 'Burning' that really stands out, but that isn't necessarily a negative point - uncomplicatedly nice indie pop is sometimes just what you need on arriving home to chill out for a while. And that's what this is.
