Adele - Hometown Glory (Pacemaker)
5/5

The fire has burned down to the final embers. You have hit the bottom of the final bottle of corner shop wine. The lady you are failing to seduce is reaching for her coat and asking you to call a cab. You reach for 'Hometown Glory' and perhaps, just maybe, everything will work out.
Piano lead and feminine voiced, this debut track is all rye smile and beautiful eyes; a voice of experience, wise beyond its years. This is what Amy Winehouse fans should be listening to. Outside of the tabloids and filled with accomplishment, devoid of all the celebrity dross.
Poignant and earnest, Adele is from Brixton in London. Her voice carries genuine character for one so young, only 19 years of age - a poet laureate for the downtrodden and hungry. Mixing elements of the blues, soul and jazz, presented in a modern paradigm, the track is a dark story of fleeting triumph and momentary euphoria.
'Hometown Glory' is a collage of the best memories of living in the city, the hero-worship of a small-town joker; the best moments of life cut together in a 'Boy Meets World' moment. Adele sings with accomplishment and passion and could bring a tear to the eye of the most hardened cynic. A real talent with a bright future.
