Clarky Cat - Sightline (Is’m)

2/5

By: Chris O'Toole

Clarky Cat - SightlineA kind of informal dance-punk outfit, Clarky Cat are named after an imagined and impossible drug from the popular television programme, Brass Eye. Bound up tighter than a Chinese girls feet, the band combine elements of groups such as The Cure and The Rapture, to present their new single 'Sightline'.

A real dance-floor filler, the short, concise piece sounds a little staid, essentially an imitation of a lot of other artists. Perhaps the group saw the money and decided they would like a little slice of the good life? Nobody can be sure, but the group appear to have taken what it is to be young, at the epicentre and an exploding scene, the here and now, and captured it at the very moment the universe began to shrink back and collapse in upon itself.

Built on synth and samples, 'Sightline' is a little generic, pleasant enough in its energetic sensibilities, a Technicolor aural presentation presented through the eyes of the colour-blind.

N.B. Their press release predicts a serotonin drought across the country, which sounds more like a threat than a promise.
