Myriad Creatures - The Hero (Jackalope)

3/5

By: Gareth Roberts

Myriad Creatures - The HeroMyriad Creatures' story is an intriguing one, a modern tale of romantic adventure if you will. Having been plying their trade for a while in London, and subsequently feeling the almost inevitable disillusionment, out of the blue came an offer to play in an East Berlin club in return for studio space in the city. They accepted, and now are based in the hotbed of creative endeavour/cultural Mecca that is the recession-riddled German capital.

So, how is this translated to their music? Are they a curious mix of cockney swagger with industrial beats? A Beirut type amalgamation of musical stylings? Well, not quite. The Creatures specialise in producing the sort of ramshackle garage pop that the White Stripes have perfected, yet set atop a full band background. It makes for very listenable stuff, worth a listen despite not being new or particularly exciting whatsoever.
