Kelley Stoltz - Your Reverie (Sub Pop)

3/5

By: Gareth Roberts

Kelley Stoltz - Your ReverieA lo-fi psych troubadour is how Kelley Stoltz is being touted, and on this evidence he is a very good one at that.

Upon hearing his pop infused garage sound, it is perhaps no surprise to learn that he hails from Detroit, arguably the most fertile hotbed for said musical output in recent history. Add to this the fact that he resided in New York for a fair proportion of his latter adolescence (working as an intern for Jeff Buckley no less), and it is clear that as groundings for a career in the music biz go, Stoltz's has been nothing short of a perfect apprenticeship.

As I say, this has manifested itself in the type of feel-good quintessential pop music the like of which Brendan Benson has long been producing. As original as the Bootleg Beatles, but immensely enjoyable nevertheless.
