Big Linda - I Don’t Even Like You (Ursa Major)

3/5

By: Michael Cragg

Big Linda - I Don't Even Like YouNo-one can be happier than Big Linda that Led Zeppelin have decided to reunite for a one off gig, such is their huge influence on debut single 'I Don't Even Like You'. Nor will it surprise anyone to learn that it was produced by Paul Stacey, a man whose previous work includes The Black Crowes and Oasis. Big Linda are the kind of band who love to wig-out, who enjoy a recurring guitar lick as much as the next man - as long as said man is wearing a Jet t-shirt and a pair of flared denims.

'I Don't Even Like You' is the kind of song that you want to dislike on first hearing, especially as it begins its descent into the kind of meandering guitar noodling everyone thought died with Jim Morrison, and yet there's something almost charming about it.

Singer Rob Alder claims to be only 22 years old but his voice crackles like that of a man twice his age surviving only on a diet of whiskey and cigarettes. Best of all is that fact that it's brilliantly catchy (minus the noodling) and fits perfectly into the category 'dumb fun', nestling snugly besides 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl', 'Harmonic Generator' and most of the Oasis back catalogue.
