Oh my God, I'm in the sixties again.
Black Lips' latest release 'Veni Vidi Vici' manages to wield a McCartney-like bassline to be proud of, with such hypnotically repetitive power that it instantly transports us to an age of psychedelic miss-spelt insects and vibraslaps.
Sounding like a Kasabian that got stoned and fell backwards through time, bumping into the flower power on the way, the band trips its way through sporadic squelching guitar solos and big stoned exhalations of breath. Cocky mantras drawl over the song suggesting that the herbal drugs that defined the era might have been replaced by their more powerful powdery cousins. Nonetheless, a memorable and off beat hark back to distant times. Trippy.
