Parka - Disco Dancer (Jeepster)
3/5
By: Alex Lee Thomson
This is a great example of danceable rock 'n' roll that lives up to the expectation created by a band's live show; the up-tempo bounce and all-round fun that Parka excite on stage is realised well across a strong, three track release. Yes, the b-sides are admirable too, showing a band that have the ability to use all the range of their sound to make fundamentally different tracks, creating frenzy for a hurried album release.
Part old-school Britpop and part nu-disco, they're a band who allow themselves to bang out a big, electric dance track such as 'Disco Dancer' and then flatter themselves with the straightforwardness of 'On The Corner', possibly the more engaging of the offerings, while still leaving a Rocky Horror-like aspect of their personality to show itself on 'The Glass'.
It's not quite exciting enough to really stick in your mind longer than the EP's run, but a glimpse at a band that could just take control of the airwaves towards the middle of 2008.
