The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses (Polydor)
3/5
By: Alex Lee Thomson
We're not going to badmouth The Maccabees (toothpaste, badmouth, get it?); the band were responsible for one of the best indie albums of 2007 and this was an utter delight on said release... but come on, what's this? The seventh single cut from the album 'Colour It In', not counting it's EP release last year, what are they thinking?
As good an album can ever be, you have to draw the line before you're just plain milking it, and this reeks of semi-skimmed. The single version has a few extra seconds of Maccabee love poured into it than the album version, but isn't different enough to warrant a solo release rendering it useless, and as a great man once said, "Nothing useless could ever be truly beautiful".
Enough said! Great band, great song. But we've all heard it. A lot.
