The Little Ones - Ordinary Song (Heavenly)

4/5

By: Chris O'Toole

The Little Ones - Ordinary SongAs fresh and exciting on their return as their departure, the Little Ones bring bright, golden summer days into winter nights. Taken from their imminent album - Morning Tide - the group have employed the building blocks of their debut EP - Sing Song - and super-sized them. The track is a soaring delight, filled with bright, broad brush strokes of colour and not a hint of irony.

From California, the group has bottled the optimism and sunshine of the state, distilled it into rainbow coloured indie-pop, and is now looking to sell it to the highest bidder. And if people aren't willing to pay the price - then hey, they'll just give it away free.

The album was recorded in LA with Dave Newton, and has been predominantly mixed by James Ford - with involvement from Andrew Weatherall and Jason Cox. The single is typical of the whole, a light infusion of pop guitar sensibilities, with a sparkling rhythm section - both employed with a graceful simplicity. It is built from lush harmonies, is innocent, beautiful and deserves to be loved.
