Royworld - Dust (Virgin)
3/5
By: Dickon Stone
'Dust' initially touches on the heavenly; the opening seconds of 'woo-ing' open you up to some kind of euphoria. But then it dips off a little during an uninspiring verse and bridge and some pretty standard lyrics are lifted right out of the pop handbook - and then POW!
'...Radioing in, radioing out...' the chorus bangs in and we are on the up again! But - sigh - once that's over, there isn't much left to look forward to except another verse...
So it's pretty hit and miss. There's something of Embrace here, maybe a hint of Keane and even more recent U2, and yes, fans of any of those bands will love it, and the rest of us who aren't really into that kind of thing will shove it into the 'boring' category and switch stations when it comes on the radio (which it will - it's that kind of tune).
But Royworld have a good thing going here, of that there is no doubt. With vocals wavering from sounding like anything from Ville Vallo to (at points) the late Phil Lynott, and that very epic opening and chorus, it's a shame the rest is so bog standard. Still, definitely watch them; one for the future, if they can create something a little more original.
