These New Puritans - Swords of Truth (Domino)
4/5

If you go onto These New Puritans MySpace page (yes, I do still use this), you'll instantly notice that their tour schedule is both ridiculously intense and all encompassing - it's a proper globe trotting spree they're on. It's nothing new either, as they've recently undergone tours with the likes of Blood Red Shoes, Lightspeed Champion and The Kills. So it's little wonder - and indeed, it's wonderful - that everyone seems to have heard of them.
Taken from their debut album Beat Pyramid, this new release 'Swords of Truth' is an edgy onslaught of a series of crashing waves. The first is a fanfare of horns, followed by a nervy yet pounding beat, before Jack Barnett's estuary tones expound a slew of incomprehensible wordplay.
The waves are relentless, changing in their speed and length, but always maintaining an undercurrent of tensely distorted beats. As they encroach on their final destination, they crash and crescendo into a muddle of noise. The result is a tense, slightly off beat but thrillingly imaginative track.
