Hadouken! - Crank It Up (Atlantic)
4/5

Oh the controversy... you've gotta love a band that cause reactions. And like My Chemical Romance, Marmite and Nuclear Power plants Hadouken! certainly provoke reactions. I've seen a whole edition of the NME's letter pages dedicated to these kings of grindie, and now they are back with another single.
I will admit from the start I sit firmly on the love side of the fence with this band, from the first time I heard those immortal lines "that boy's a hoxton hero", I was hooked. Their album Music For An Accelerated Culture hit all the right notes, and 'Crank It Up' is one of its high points. The frenzied, raw opening and razor sharp talking/singing/shouting of James Smith quite simply work.
Although the bare essentials remain the same - the loud drawling synth, digital drum beats and swerving rave base - for those on my side of the fence, that works just fine.
