"...The greatest pop single of the year... Everything you wanted from the Klaxons and didn't get..." - that's perhaps a little over-egging from The Observer Music Monthly for you there. Personally, I don't think I would go so far as to hail it as greatness; 'Into The Galaxy' is definitely a cool track, very summery, ultra funky, and the Bowie-esque vocals definitely make it pretty sexy - but I don't think it can be put into the same box as the Klaxons.

So let's forget about them being used as a comparison to what is clearly a flat out pop song, not new rave exploration (though how much of that the Klaxons actually did is up for debate in itself); to be honest it would be fairer to compare it to something like MGMT. Yeah. MGMT meets Bowie meets Guster meets White Rose Movement. Without ever bumping in to the Klaxons. That makes it sounds pretty awesome, actually.

Which it isn't, not quite. I mean, this is an example of good pop - it will get spun on the radio, girls'll like it, boys will like that girls like it, they'll like that the girls will turn it up really loud in their cars and that they'll know the words. But I kind of expected more from Midnight Juggernauts.

The bass line is cool and bouncy but doesn't change for most of the length of the song, the synths are pretty psychedelic - but then that's basically what you'd expect for a track that references outer space in its title - but rhythmically it's rather weak, and in fact, there's little in the way of development to the single at all. After a couple of listens, I'm a little bored of it. There are some great remix collaborations lined up though, including Metronomy, Digitalism and Grandmaster Flash. Let's hope they can make things a little more interesting.
