Tricky - Council Estate (Domino)

Hmm. It starts well but I'm just not sure. I'm listening and I'm waiting for something to grab me. The chorus sounds a bit like Fatboy Slim. That's never good.

This is pretty much throwaway by Tricky standards. It's that obnoxious delayed guitar about a minute in that rapes my left ear. It does nothing for me. I'm probably going to delete this from my computer and go listen to 'Broken Homes' and forget about this.

But... Domino don't tend to make many bad moves. I'm wondering if there was a better choice of single. I hope the album is better than this. I think my favourite thing about it is the Portishead sample at the beginning. And that other sample that jumps in every now and then. Other than that, it's pretty much two minutes of unfortunate decisions.

If Tricky's back catalogue was limboing under horrifically low poles in Trinidad, this song would be more like office workers squatting under broomsticks in London.
