Weezer - Troublemaker (Universal)
3/5

Weezer are clocking up quite a rainbow of coloured albums, no doubt making Zippy, George, Bungle and the gang very jealous. 'Troublemaker' is the lead track taken from Weezer (The Red Album) Weezer's third eponymous album of the six they have now racked up. If this track as well as the highly infectious 'Pork and Beans' that is currently circulating YouTube are anything to go by, it looks like this album will be one of defiance (after the shockingly poor Make Believe).
'Troublemaker' has incessantly simplistic lyrics layered over recycled guitar strikes and drum thumps. "I'm a troublemaker, Never been a faker, Doing things my own way, And never giving up" - this in essence sums the track (and the band?) up, its that age old cliché of "rock stars" being different and following their dreams.
Don't be too insulted by the simplicity though as it is Weezer after all; tongue therefore heads nerdily towards cheek. Its simplicity adds to it being an incredibly likeable track with a touch of humour thrown in for good measure. True, it's not going to bring down the establishment, its not going to set the world alight, but it's a solid pop effort. They've spent much of the last few years not even coming close to that.
