Sway, one time Mercury Music Prize nominee and leading light of the UK hip hop scene, has returned with a sure fire pop hit. It's hugely catchy, the lyrics are super accessible and everyone will know the words in no time. In fact, it has such a standard pop structure that it makes an alternative music publication like us wonder - is it a bad thing if we actually have any respect for 'Saturday Night Shuffle' at all?
There are gentle but twangy guitars, simple square bass, JT-esque chord progressions on the synth; we have heard this song before I guess, it's most certainly nothing new, but it gets the head nodding, it will get the girls moving so... what more could you ask for?
Much more, granted. But what makes this work is that this is proper R&B - actual Rhythm and Blues, which is a nice change to some of the all-filler-no-killer chaff we often put up with in the genre. In fact, it captures the cool, rapidly fading summer nights that it'll get played on quite perfectly.
