Detroit Social Club - Rivers and Rainbows (Stranded Soldier)
3/5
By: Alex Lee Thomson
We're glad music is getting better again, and more so we're glad that British bands are finding their way among the big psychedelic records of the States. With a big, ballsy out and out rockabilly sound in line with Frightened Rabbit and Broken Records et al, this Newcastle band (yeah, we know... not even from Detroit!) have thrown the grinding guitars of Spaceman 3 and The Music in with this tune to make it a much grander creation.
It does have a very American sound, but done in a shoegazing kinda way only the Brits can do. It's a tad tiresome at times though, and despite being epic from start to finish, it's got little disparity and becomes tedious very quickly. Not quite the nihilist anthem they're surely hoping for, but a good tune nonetheless.
