Friendly Fires - Paris (XL)
5/5
By: Dickon Stone
I really don't think there is a band out there at the moment as special as Friendly Fires. The carnival beats and feel-good-cowbell-French-girl-holiday-in-the-sun-synth that-feels-like-I-am-sunbathing epic-ness of this single is beyond anything that has come out of the indie rock movement for years. I have never been made so warm by a collection of notes and words before.
Everything about 'Paris' evokes this sense of pure lust for/love for life, the lyrics make me want to sob, and its ending breaks down into synth tones that make me want to die just because I know I'd be dying happy. The strength of emotion in such simple, wonderful words is a very powerful thing. Breathe.
I promise. I'm on it. You need to get on it. Treat your ears.
