Underground Railroad - 25 / NYC (One Little Indian)
3/5

Off their 2008 album, Sticks and Stones, Underground Railroad hits us with a duelling new single, '25' / 'NYC'. A double a-side single, '25' is the spacey stoner dreaming in the back of the classroom to 'NYC's spitball-firing delinquent lashing out with misbehaviour.
'25'' has a sound that could be sang underwater but would much rather be flying in the sky. Heavy guitars still keep their cool, and what could be the annoying repetition of a single lyric actually just reinforces the lackadaisical enjoyment of watching the clouds go by, not bothered by the fact that you have nothing else to do.
'NYC' contrasts with a distortion that's a bit painful. The vocals are harsh and only further complemented by abrupt shouting and consistent dissonance and feedback. I don't think the guitars play a single gentle note. The rock emerges once you get used to the condition, but lack of coherence loses it overall.
