The Voluntary Butler Scheme - Multiplayer (Split)
3/5
By: Doug McNaught

I don't know where to begin with 'Multiplayer'. The song starts off like some 1970's hit by Aretha Franklin before digressing into a whiney bloke from the West Midlands talking about getting his hair cut while being backed by the chorus of frogs from the Budweiser advert. It's a mess, but somewhere in all this mess lays a charisma that holds it all together like some magical charming glue.
If you stick with it long enough, the simple chorus 'Love is a game, a game for two. Love is a game, I wanna play with you' is a little cheesy yet horribly catchy and you'll probably find yourself walking down the street getting odd looks while singing it to strangers. Yes, the accent gets on my nerves but it's always nice to hear something from Britain that is comfortable with its regional identity instead of the same old copy-cat, faux-American drivel.
However, the Voluntary Butler Scheme has left me with too little toe-tapping and a rather large question mark hanging over my head...kind of like dancing with a Rubix Cube. I'll need more convincing, but at least this one-man-band has my attention.
