The Klaxons were the "nu rave" band. They were everywhere, people wore t-shirts with their lyrics on them; they inspired new fashions, bought back glow sticks, and were generally fresh and full on. Now they seem to have disappeared, the latest mumblings being that recent recordings have sounded "too experimental" (for which are we to read 'a bit crap'?)

During that time, there was another slightly calmer band meandering just below the frenzied surface, called Friendly Fires. They still have the pace and punch of their Klaxon counterparts, but, maybe as their name suggests, the St Albans 3 piece have a softer, more amiable approach to the type of music they create.

And I'd say it's an attitude that's paid off - their highly acclaimed self titled album is crammed full of floor filling tunes, think 'Paris' and 'Jump In The Pool', and latest offering 'Skeleton Boy'. Here, with its cosmic synths and atmospheric keys, the track draws you in and before you know it you you'll be floating round the dance floor / living room / bathroom (or wherever you may be - such is its charm) enjoying the rhythmic calligraphy of sounds.

Swathes of rapturous keys and punchy, rhythmic bass lines are twisted into an immediate melange of daytime radio friendly anthems and itchy indie disco floor fillers designed to get your feet moving independently of your body.
