Metronomy - Radio Ladio (Because)
4/5
By: Izzy James
Metronomy are one of those bands who make everything look easy. Their songs are so simple, it makes you wonder if they just fell on a few synths and accidentally made a weird and almost child-like sounding electro pop hit.
Radio Ladio is no exception. After just one listen, you probably know just about all the words and could hum the tune as well - let's put it this way, if there was a written exam after the first play, you would ace it. Metronomy are often compared to Hot Chip, who too are known for their love of repetition, but the difference here is that the instruments are harder to pinpoint - they sound both other wordly and organic, something which other electro bands such as Late Of The Pier fail to do. This may sound like the song is more nursery rhyme than an undeniable dance floor filler, but at the end of the day, it is one hell of a catchy song, even with the retro speak-and-spell chorus.
For those who want a something a little more relaxed for when the kids have gone to bed, then look no further than the Micachu remix, which seem to have disposed with half the instruments, thus making it listener friendly away from all the body popping and disco balls. Either way, if Metronomy are producing music that's as memorable as the almighty 'Baa Baa Black Sheep', then that's something worth putting your lego away for, and paying attention to.
