Third Eye Blind - 'Out Of The Vein'

Even on the rare occasions when Third Eye Blind's vocalist Stephan Jenkins employs the kind of language which warrants the 'Parental Advisory' label adorning the album-sleeve, TEB still seem too sweet to be genuinely offensive.

And though Jenkins' voice may bear an uncanny resemblance to that of Red Hot Chili Pepper's Anthony Kiedis, you get the feeling that the 'Blind would merely laugh and blush politely at the very suggestion of rock n' roll debauchery and strategically-placed socks.

Extra indie-cred brownie points are gained via the inclusion of guest-vocalist Kimya Dawson of The Moldy Peaches on the lethargic 'Self-righteous', but 'Out Of The Vein' is essentially a nice record, an hour of twinkly, wide-eyed emo-lite, devoted largely to nostalgia and ex-girlfriends.

Memorable choruses abound, but it's on the anthemic 'Hit & Run' and 'Misfits', both in parts resembling Feeder's present-day widescreen epic-ness, that The San Francisco foursome really shine.
