Seafood / Easyworld - Manchester Roadhouse - 16/7/01

3/5

By: Spencer McCloud

SeafoodThe Roadhouse, arguably home of Manchester's seminal music culture, is tonight taken over by Seafood t-shirt wearing indiekids. And Jon Robb. However, first, there is the small matter of Easyworld. I say small, but Easyworld are the nicest of small packages. A million gems thrown into each chorus, a blitzkrieg of eyeliner and the kind of tunes that Mo*Ho*Bi*Sho*Pi would kill for. Even a mandolin is roped into the set, much to the amusement of the audience. However, Easyworld carry it off, and with aplomb.

And so to Seafood... Starting with the pulsating bass line of 'Cloaking', spontaneous moshing breaks out amongst the diehards at the front. However, this proves to be the highpoint of the set. Songs seem to drag on in a 'modern Sonic Youth minus trumpets' style. A brief respite comes in the form of 'Splinter', and an amazing light show, but other than that, the glory of new album 'When Do We Start Fighting' is - sadly - missing. The indie-kids, however, love it. Sigh.
