Trust Company - 'The Lonely Position Of Neutral' (Geffen)
2/5
By: Matt Tomiak

Does the world really need yet another slickly-produced, angry-as-hell, quiet-verse/loud-chorus American nu-metal act? Well, don't discount Montgomery, Alabama's Trust Company just yet.
The lyrics might not be entering any particularly original territory: there's nothing here we haven't already heard already from the likes of Papa Roach or Linkin Park. However, the tunes themselves are certainly above the average standard of such a fare: and Trust Company may just be able to carve themselves out a niche as 'the band with four singers' - all band-members contributing vocally on the record.
Admittedly, the first six tracks on 'TLPON' are all pure 'Hybrid Theory' material: eerie, atmospheric guitars culminating on fearsome choruses, the subject-matter being equally unequivocal, too, titles including 'Downfall', 'Falling Apart' and 'Drop to Zero'. The one track on which Trust Co. temporarily abandon this formula, incidentally - it's called 'The Fear' - is the album's best; the fervour isn't compromised, but this is slow-burning, stirring, lighters-in-the-air stuff, instead of the typical, ye olde growling, moshpit-activating raucousness. But, sadly, after this brief interlude, normal service is resumed until the close of the album.
Fans of the genre will lap it up, but, for the non-metaller, it's unlikely to appeal greatly.
