Ikara Colt - Manchester Roadhouse - 25/9/01
4/5

What with all these shouty New York punks coming up through the ranks, it was inevitable that the UK would throw up a few themselves. We just didn't expect them to be this good.

Ikara Colt take to the stage in a blur of red and black, with their frontman, Paul Resende, strangely recalling a young Roddy Woomble, complete with tucked-in shirt and open suit. Right from the start, they're a blitz of jagged melodies and screeching guitars, combining the excitement of ...Trail Of Dead, and the naivety of any small band - well - rising through the ranks.
As they throw out indie disco classics such as 'Sink Venice', the crowd go wild and you feel yourself being strangely captivated by the lanky, student-esque singer. If this review seems to have an air of confusion, it's because the band seem to as well.
All in all though, Ikara Colt are a very good thing - just wait for the finished article.
