PLUG IN BABIESIt's rare that such a gifted band should emerge in such a climate, but it's
not just their wide-eyes electric lust or youthful naivety that beckons The
Music forward out of this void. It's that they're so devoid of any pretensions, so true and graceful, that every mighty riff whirls you in and takes you over. And they're so f**king young too.
Essentially, it's stoner-psychedelic dance-rock. The only similarity they have to The Verve is the way their sound revolves around jamming and experimenting: the music is actually faster, much funkier and the sound ultimately more original. Looped guitar riffs doused in delay, which, like the rhythm and vocals, change pace naturally throughout, creating a sound quite unlike anything else.
Singer Rob's smooth falsetto is another instrument in the mix. It's like they switch from 33 to 45rpm at will. The organic wistfulness of 'Take The Long Road And Walk It' opens the clouds, whilst new single 'You Might As Well Try And F**k Me' casts the heavens open in a shower of pulsating sonic confusion. You could call it a storm in heaven but
that would give the wrong idea. The song 'Disco' is what confirms their
future status tonight. It wraps itself around your head, contorting its
changing speeds all round, causing the buzz that heralds the dawn of something
very important. And behind the wry smiles and glazed faces, The Music know
it better than anyone.
