Vue - 'Find Your Home' (Sub Pop)
3/5
By: Toby L

Vue are the essence of passionate, albeit traditional, rock 'n' roll. Their range of bluesy chords, snarling Jagger-esque vocals, light spells of organ and stomping percussion epitomise a sound created by a bunch of youngsters who rather unashamedly look to the influences of old in order for their material to transpire.
Despite this, though, they seem very now. What with tours under their belts already with acts such as the garage, lo-fi splendour of The White Stripes, the more-than-occasionally-70s Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, as well as modern noise-niks Trail Of Dead, Vue have furthered their sound to grand audiences all over the US and UK in a relatively minimal amount of time. The result is an astoundingly energetic compilation of tunes guaranteed to groove and grind the listener into a state of sweaty exhaustion. A bit like a Britney Spears video, then.
Opening with the foaming-at-the-mouth grandiose rock-outs of the harmonica-tinged 'Hitchhiking' and recent single, the bass-heavy 'Pictures Of Me', you just know that you're in for a full-throttle listening-experience. Where The Vue fail in producing potential instantly recognisable hit singles, they succeed in consistency; the musicianship is constantly a wonder to absorb, and the mood is always that of euphoric. Reassuringly, any worries that diversity may be a lacking factor in their repertoire are soon shovelled away on the hearing of the particularly brooding and epic 'We've Already Got Our Minds Made Up For You'.
By the time the record passes you by, admittedly, there's no great sense of hearing a masterpiece - though there is a nagging request at the forefront of your mind to hear it all again. And, surely, isn't that what all good records should at least attempt to strive for?
