You know, these package tours are always worth a punt. Four concise sets from a quartet of hotly-tipped new acts, as well as the distinct probability that you'll be able to boast to your mates this time in 2007 that you saw 'em first.
London trio PULL TIGER TAIL are the only non-definite article'd band on the bill, and a very mixed bag. There's a touch of We Are Scientists nerdy-yet-knowing showmanship (and big fringes) in there, certainly, and on the likes of 'It's All About Destruction' a nice line in Futureheards style 3-way harmonies. 'Incoming', meanwhile is Panic! At The Disco-style electro-emo, and, erm, there's also quite a lot that resembles that keyboard bit at the start of 'Every Day I Love You Less and Less' by the Kaiser Chiefs that goes 'dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-der-dun-dun.'
'That's the first time I've ever had THREE fingers up my arse!' announces THE PIGEON DETECTIVES' (pictured) wild-haired leader Matt Bowman after one of his frequent leaps into the crowd. Like a Ritalin-deficient adolescent, he's a Tasmanian Devil of a singer who won't stand being ignored. But it's unlikely you'd want to, either: 'Don't Know How To Say Goodbye' and new single 'I Found Out' are infectious, big-chorus shoutalongs that are destined to propel the Leeds quintet into the Big Leagues.
It's been a jolly old evening thus far, and unkempt local oiks THE HOLLOWAYS (who take their name from the road our office is on, don't you know) sure ain't gonna change that. Like Dexys' Midnight Runners re-imagined for scampish century indie discos, Alfie Jackson and co gleefully skip through their new LP 'So This Is Great Britain'. Highlights include 'Happiness And Penniless' and that uncomplicated ode to the remedial power of a good old fashioned jaunty pop tune, 'Generator' . And as THE SUNSHINE UNDERGROUND send us into the night with their The Rapture raised on Yorkshire Tea n 'chip shops dance-rock thing, we're left to consider the bright future for all concerned this evening.
