Airwaves - 'Infomaniac' (Ignition)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak
Remember Delakota? Thought not, but Airwaves apparently appear to. Certainly, their irrepressible 'Infomaniac' album shares the Del's boys' heterogeneous range of influences - as well as their infectious sense of musical fun.
From opener 'Monster', bearing the same funky groove-stylings as The Charlatans' legendary 'The Only One I Know', the Inspiral Carpets/Clint Boon Experience-esque energetic frothiness shows no sign of slowing down. 'The Fuzz', a towering, glowering stomper is another highlight, although digesting the 13 tracks across the record in one go is a bit wearing. At times, in fact, it seems like the 'Waves had so much fun creating this LP that they somewhat lost a sense of order.
Nevertheless, full marks for diversity - if not direction.
