Bestival - Robin Hill Country Park, Isle of Wight - 5-7/9/08
1/5
By: James Orange

In case there were some of you out there who were worried that this year's new 'Camp Bestival' would detract from the quality of the main event - eating up time and money, and pinching all the best guests from the original Isle of Wight based Bestival - then let us put your minds very much at rest with the following announcement.
First off: The line-up is excellent, providing some much needed festival excitement to a summer so far dominated by those (dare we say it) underwhelming Glastonbury headliners. But curator Rob da Bank has made sure that the non-musical side of things is just as interesting as what's going on on stage. Amongst others he's pulled together a Bollywoodcocktail bar, Jestival comedy tent, a Farmers market, kid's area and various secret stages to ensure that this 5th year at Robin Hill Country Park is as magical an event as we've come to expect from the Bestival organisers (and that's without mentioning the copious quantities cake, face painting and fancy dress discos).
The full roster of attending artists will be posted below but here's a quick shortlist to whet your appetite: In a UK festival exclusive My Bloody Valentine are headlining the Friday night slot. Aphex Twin, The Breeders and CSS will all be making an appearance alongside Fuck Buttons, Ox Eagle Lion Man, Metronomy and the excellent These New Puritans. Not to forget Micah P Hinson, The Duke Spirit, Foals, Fleet Foxes,...oh and the 80's synth-pop contingent of The Human League and Gary Numan. Hell, it's all good. Just hand in your notice at work, buy your tickets and make sure you're there when the curtain raises on September the 5th.
