This year, Rockfeedback is delighted to be the official blog partner for the rather exciting iTunes Festival, taking place at London’s Roundhouse every night in July. Over the course of the festival, we’ll not be missing a night, delivering morning-after reports on everyone from Oasis and Bloc Party to Franz Ferdinand and Kasabian playing intimate sets to fans lucky enough to have won tickets to the shows.

“Just ‘ave a shit in the sink mate….we’re at Oasis, intwe?!”
The patter in the queue for the toilets at the Roundhouse as Oasis roll in fresh from a weekend headlining at Wembley Stadium is hardly worthy of the Algonquin Round Table. Still, as the most over-subscribed event at this year’s iTunes festival and with old Britpop adversaries Blur reaping the plaudits for their comeback shows, there’s a tangible sense of anticipation permeating the beery bonhomie.
The Enemy’s bulldozing, terrace-friendly bawl-alongs pack a powerful if unsubtle punch, not least set-closer ‘You’re Not Alone,’ although singer Tom Clarke’s strangely overbearing decision to ask the crowd how much they’re looking forward to the Gallaghers and co smacks of a self-doubt hardly in keeping with their bolshie, laddish repertoire.
In sheerly practical terms, an Oasis gig in a venue this size is still indisputably An Event – it’s a rare opportunity go get his up close and personal to a band of this stature, and as the opening chords of ‘Rock 'n' Roll Star’ ring out it’s hard not to get swept up in the moment. Spewing impenetrable vitriol and steadfastly refusing to remove his parka all night, a tambourine-wielding Liam dedicates ‘Roll With It’ to “the real people”, demands to know who’s actually from Camden Town and even the pantomime inevitability of the singer skulking off-stage (“Oooh, someone’s in a bad mood” sighs Noel before an acoustic version of ‘The Masterplan’) fails to detract from the riotous mood. “This is a new song; s’called ‘Power Failure’” announces the returning frontman before launching instead into a woozy version of ‘Wonderwall.’
So, yeah, it’s all predictable enough – but then again, when that predictability includes ‘Supersonic’ followed by ‘Live Forever’ who’s anyone to moan?
