Fink – Sort Of Revolution (Ninja Tune)

3/5

By: Dickon Stone

Singer-songwriter stuff. You kind of know what to expect.  If you assume present day singer-songwriters are going to sound like anything from Nick Drake to Damian Rice you can’t go far wrong with your expectations.

Fink is fairly standard in this way; lovely picked guitar, moody harmonies, soothing if-it-was-raining-and-i-was-feeling-a-bit-down-this-might-make-me-sib tones going on.  Cello, piano; exactly what you would expect.

Fink’s voice is a bit jazzy; if only this had been released while the OC was still being broadcast I am sure Sort Of Revolution would have made its way to the soundtrack.

Am I painting the picture?

This is nothing breakthrough; no Tom Waits, nor even Fionn Regan, but does what you would hope it might; like a sachet of cuppa soup; you wouldn’t live on it, but you might go there on a cold, dark, Winter evening.

Certainly worth checking out. Definitely in the ‘good’ derivation of singer-songwriter stuff out there – cos let’s be honest, there is a great amount of dross.
