Animal Kingdom – Tinman (Warner)

2/5

By: Dickon Stone

From the outset this upbeat indie rock single strikes me as distinctly average; somewhere between The Shins and Death Cab For Cutie (falsetto and slightly winy vocals), the obvious chord progressions, heard-it-before main guitar riff, and bland - albeit catchy – lyrics.

There isn’t much wrong with this single, but there isn’t anything stand-out either.  I do like the loose bassline, lots of slide, lots of body; but I think the track fails to follow through with any grit or significant memorable aspect, and that lets it down.

Decidedly normal.
